PASS…SHOOT…SCORE THE GOLD

With the best team in the last three years, boys basketball is doing everything possible despite losing two games, to have a higher chance of winning even playing against more experienced players.

Since the beginning of the year, new high school coach Samuel Villa has made everything possible for his team to train together even implemented a new system to beat last year’s odds.

We have been training at 6 in the morning, to be able to have the whole team together, because during afternoons sessions many have different activities,” high school basketball coach Samuel Villa said.

From the start the team has been pushing new boundaries to try to get even better, they have tried to do so by playing against more advanced players in Copa Egresados.

“[We] play against them because it is more demanding in terms of level of play and physical abilities, and when we play against our category we are a step further,” Villa said.

Their main goal this season is to beat last year’s odds in binationals and they are doing everything possible to rise to the occasion.

Our goal this year in binational is to be better than last year and win the championship,” team member Nicolas Vergara said.

Compared to last year team, this team is stronger and more determined. It has been noticed not only for people at the school but for ones outside too.

“The team for this year this super good guys are more committed and it’s a more manageable group,” former high school coach Yuber Hinestroza said when asked about this year’s team. “The only thing that worries me is that they do not have another point guard since [theirs] coming out of an injury and will not have rhythm of game.”

During this training process there have certainly been some challenges for the team and it has been shown during recent games, but they keep pushing forward despite their odds.

“We are doing very well this year although we have many difficulties and in the game on Thursday and Saturday although we lost, we played well,” team member Tomas Moreno said.

Throughout this 3 months of school, boys basketball team has had one objective and they are committed to accomplish it. Trying to be at their best to be one of the leading teams in the tournament.

“We want to be undefeated and win the title, that’s why we are working so hard,” Moreno said.
