GOLD, HERE THEY COME.

Getting the chance to win the title is three weeks away for the TCS Girls Soccer team as they are preparing to overcome last year’s results, coming second in binationals.

Even though winning is not always possible the team has always been doing their best to seek the first place title in Binationals.

“Since we started in the year 2000 we are always looking for the title,” said Hernan Arango, HS Girl’s Soccer Head Coach. “We are always forced to go win because we are one of the big teams in binationals.”

This semester the team has been training hard on specific parts of their game to be able to win this year in the 2017 Binationals which will take place in Barranquilla on November 13th to the 19th.

“First [we are working] on attitude and second on the collective game. I have never depended on only one person and that is what we are basing our training on,” explained Arango.

For three years in a row the girls have been in the finals going against CNG (Colegio Nueva Granada) from Bogotá. Out of these three finals they won one of them in 2015 where CNG was the home team.

“There is no better feeling than to beat the host team. We were surprised because we had beat CNG in their home,” said Maria Antonia Escobar, senior and current team captain. “We were the champions and had taken the title away from them.”

Last year, in Manizales, the girls were able to reach the finals and go against CNG for the third time but at the end the result wasn’t what they expected. Different aspects made it hard for the team to be able to play as they always do.

“When we lost in Manizales the conditions of the field and the weight of our players influenced a lot. It was a very wet and muddy field and our players are way to light. If the field would’ve been good it would have been a very different game,” Arango reflected.

After the 2016 Binationals in Manizales it could be seen that the team was not the same as before. The loss was not taken as easily as others.

We were super bummed out and when we got home we went into a horrible losing streak,“ explained Camila Velez, 11th grader and team goalkeeper. “We got really hopeless after losing the final and I think that it really messed us up afterwards.”

This year the girls and coach are confident that this year’s team and their skills will get them to the top.

“This year we have an excellent team and I trust all of my players,” said Arango.
