Social Media Banned

Social media is one of the most important and significant things for the daily basis of a teenager because it’s a place where we can communicate and find everything we like bringing us instant joy. The  Columbus School blocked many social media pages and apps because of the huge unnecessary traffic it created to the school’s wifi making many students disappointed and mad about this. Even though, school is for studying and being focus on academic stuff, students also like to get their minds out of the stressful environment by using their phones or computers and being able to reach to whatever social media they want. In a way it’s a horrible and a drastic decision to choose what pages and apps to block or not and much more if this pages are the ones that help us communicate with other people.

Many students have different opinions about this new decision but the one that exalts the most is how students are mad about how the school blocked this pages. This year the school blocked pages like instagram, whatsapp and facebook bringing many controversy among the TCS community. “I’m was really impressed when I get to school the first day and I saw that social media wasn’t working including instagram which is the one that I most like because I see it when I’m always bored. I still don’t understand why the school did this and I hate the decision that the school made upon this issue because these social medias are what in a way brings me joy and happiness.” Juan Jose Escobar 11th grader says. For many students this was a big impact because their daily routine of looking at their phones and social medias at window and lunch completely changed. “Almost 8 hours every day in school without using my phone and intensively studying every day has me dying because for me my phone is kind of a relief. If I’m stressed or down about something I always use my phone to play something or see something in social media that I like but going 8 hours straight without taking my mind away from the world is very difficult and much more in 11th grade which by far is the most difficult grade in school.” Escobar says.

Even though, there are students that hate the decision made by the school they really don’t care because they found out a way that they can see the pages that school blocked. “At first I was mad at the school because I couldn’t understand why my instagram wasn’t working but when I realize that they blocked the page I went to the app store and downloaded a vpn that helped me enter the pages that the school blocked. When I’m tired or bored I turn on the vpn and I start browsing my instagram feed without a problem.” Julian Jaramillo 11th grader says.

The terrible decision that the school made changed our daily routine. The school blocked this pages because the wifi traffic was unnecessary and it was more important to use in academic stuff than in social media but even though this was a reasonable decision, it was a huge impact among us.
