Senior Convivencia, a Different Kind of Adventure

The Columbus School Seniors attended their last convivencia at Parque los Salados on September 29th with the purpose of bringing all of the students together.

The Senior convivencia is characterized by having different activities and being fun. 12th grade students had it on Parque los Salados last month and enjoyed  it. They spent the whole school day on activities like making a barbecue, team races, or a karaoke; all of this with the purpose of having fun and bringing the grade together.

“The activities in the senior convivencia are really fun, they’re different than activities in other grades convivencias.”, Andres Rendon, Seniors counselor, said.

The last convivencia is usually the one where the students have the most fun. In this convivencia students are challenged with activities that are different to all those done in past convivencias.

“It was really fun because we had challenging activities like having to turn on the barbecue”, Santiago Ramirez, 12th grade student, said.

In addition to having challenging activities, students have to go through them with groups of people that are not just their friends. This allows the students to develop their teamwork and communication skills, as well as getting to talk to new people.

“Also, we were put into groups with people that we don’t normally work with, which was also really fun.”, Ramirez said.

Working with others is not what we usually want. But in the last convivencia it is a tradition to work with any other people from your grade.

“We try to make people work with people that are not their closest friends, but we always make sure the students are comfortable in their groups.”

Creating random groups may lead to problems such as conflicts between students. But this wasn’t a problem in the senior convivencia, if someone was uncomfortable with their group they could change their group by telling Andres.

“We didn’t have big problems at the convivencia, I had a lot of fun with my group and with the activities we had to do. I think the whole grade had fun at the convivencia.”, Ramirez said.

This convivencia had events like a karaoke in front of all of the students, this made it funny and entertaining. Overall, convivencias are a fun way to interact with others and to come together as a grade

“I believe the convivencia is probably the most important event in the school year because it is fun and brings people together, I always enjoy them”, Simon Escobar, TCS student said.
