Crepes & Happiness

★★★★

One of the few restaurants in Colombia that hire only single mothers to help them is called Crepes & Waffles. This glorious restaurant was opened on April 13, 1980, created by two college men who wanted to transform food into love and happiness. 38 years later, Crepes & Waffles is now one of the most well-known restaurants in Colombia, with 29 locations in 5 countries; a restaurant worthy of spending your time and money.

Food is not only fuel to the body, it’s also happiness to the heart and soul. When testing the menu, the food quality and the price it all seems perfect. The menu is full of different food, but the main dishes are crepes of all styles, from vegetarian to beef to seafood. A famous one is the “Mar encocado”, a seafood crepe cooked with ingredients that harmonize with the soft feeling of the crepe. The coconut sauce creates a contrast between the seafood taste of the chopped octopus, shrimp, squid and mussels and the crunchy and fresh coconut pieces generates a stronger contrast. The black quinoa in it creates a disparity in the flavor because of its plain feel, also making a contrast to the bright and well-cooked ingredients of the plate.

At the end of your meal, you can’t leave C&W without eating dessert, the ice creams and the waffles are their specialties. The most recommended waffle is the traditional one with ice cream. You can order this with any syrup and the flavor of ice cream of your preference. Arequipe is the perfect syrup to accompany the waffle due to the sticky and sweet flavor that blends wonderfully with the smoothness of the ice cream, preferably the “Frutos del Bosque” ice cream. The contrast between the warm and the cold creates a balance in the crunchy waffle, ideally to eat before leaving. The variety on its menu is an advantage for Crepes & Waffles unlike other chain restaurants such as Chef Burger which has no variety on its menu. On this kind of restaurants, people get tired because they always eat the same thing, in this case, burger. On the other hand, C&W wants to make it impossible for the customers not to go back again.

In a restaurant, the food is almost the most important aspect, but we can’t forget the ambiance. C&W’s ambiance can overwhelm from the number of people in the restaurant. The waitresses are all over the place so you may feel kind of rushed to finish your food and it can get too noisy. The bathrooms, for instance, are tidy, which is a huge plus for the restaurant, and let’s not forget the smell of the place, it smells incredible from all the food passing by. On the other hand, La Casa de Amelia has a calm ambiance where you can enjoy your food, relax and escape from the hurry of the day. Regardless of its ambiance being better, C&W still has comfortable seats and a joyful surrounding.

Every single waitress and cook in C&W are women, single mothers and head of their family. This factor was created to give women an opportunity to sustain their own. Eating here gives an opportunity to enjoy incredible food yet you also have the opportunity to help out families in need. The waitresses are extremely prepared, not only do they take your order but they also make suggestions and make sure everything you ordered is exactly how it’s supposed to be. In comparison to Mundo Verde, the waitresses and cooks are also women, but the quality of their waitresses is much lower, they are not friendly and their disposition to the restaurant is dramatically worse. C&W’s waitresses make the customer feel welcome and comfortable as they arrive, while they eat and when they leave.

Crepes & Waffles’ experience is something you’ll not get tired of because of all the options available at the restaurant. There’s always something new to try; the food is amazing, you can go eat, drink coffee or even just get dessert. Never doubt going to C&W it’s a wonderful idea.
