  • The NHS group at our high school is putting together candy grams and serenades for all the students. Its a tradition during Valentines Day week where NHS students make candygrams and sell them so anyone can give them to whoever they want. Serenades are also a long-standing tradition here. We enjoy doing this. Its hilarious to see how people react when they receive candygrams and serenades from someone unexpected, Eva Morales, one of the NHS participants, said.

College admissions, the daily stress of seniors

College admissions, the daily stress of seniors

The pressure of college admissions weighs on Seniors as they navigate a complex process, striving to secure their future and reach societal expectations.

With the college admissions process serving as a crucible for seniors, the daily stress they endure underscores the high stakes involved, as they struggle with academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and personal aspirations creating a landscape of uncertainty and intense competition.

“As a Senior, every day feels like a battle in the trenches of college admissions. The pressure is real, and it’s not just about grades or activities; it’s about shaping our futures with a sea full of uncertainty and competition,” senior Eva Morales said.

Amidst the chaos of deadlines and expectations, seniors find themselves grappling with the immense pressure of college admissions. Students try to balance academics, extracurriculars, and personal statements while hoping it’s enough to stand out.

“With the stress of deadlines and expectations, every senior is juggling academics, extracurriculars, and pouring their heart into personal statements. It feels like we’re on a tightrope, hoping that our efforts will be enough to stand out in the competitive college admissions landscape,” Morales said.

Moreover, the increasing competitiveness of college admissions only adds to seniors’ stress. With acceptance rates plummeting and the emphasis on holistic review, students are being judged and compared.

“In this relentless race for college spots, the pressure keeps rising. Acceptance rates are dropping, and the whole process feels like a constant evaluation. We’re not just submitting applications; we’re constantly being judged and compared, hoping our uniqueness shines through essays,” senior Tomas Artistizabal said.

The process of writing essays and identifying the ideal higher education institution introduces uncertainty regarding the outcome of seniors’ applications, contributing to heightened anxiety in their daily lives.

“In the pursuit of finding the perfect match for higher education, seniors grapple with the uncertainty of their application outcomes. Each essay becomes a reflection of their aspirations, and the unknown adds an undeniable layer of anxiety to their daily lives, making the college admissions journey a formidable challenge,” TCS College Counselor Dina Rechani said.

Additionally, the financial burden associated with higher education exacerbates the stress seniors experience during the college admissions process. Students face the fear of student loan debt and the pressure to secure scholarships adds to the already overwhelming stress of applying to college.

“The financial aspect is like a storm cloud hanging over the excitement of college applications. The fear of student loan debt and the constant pressure to secure scholarships not only add weight to our decisions but also intensify the already overwhelming stress of navigating the college admissions process. It’s like trying to plan our future while constantly watching the price tag,” Aristizabal said.

In conclusion, the daily stress of seniors navigating the college admissions process reflects the high stakes involved as they strive to shape their future amidst intense competition and uncertainty.

“In the daily grind of college admissions, seniors face a unique crucible of high stakes, intense competition, and pervasive uncertainty. It’s a reflection of their resilience and determination as they strive to shape a future that holds both promise and challenges in a landscape where every decision seems to carry profound weight,” Rechani said.
