With a New Year Comes Change

The grading standards are taking a complete change for the 2018-2019 school year. Standard passed grading is taking over there for the marking system needs to align with it.

With the cooperation of many teachers the grading system for next year will be completely different.  One of the teachers involved in the change of this curriculum is English teacher David Gold.

“Ninth grade will be on a 1,2 ,3 ,4 grading system. This is because this was the grading system in middle, and high school will eventually transition,” said Gold.

The plan for 2019-2020 school year is for all of high school to transition to this grading system. Paulina bernal 11th grade student helps  explain the worries of highschool students with the grading system this year.

“I believe that the change in the grading system is needed; not turning in an assignment can get you a better grade than turning a badly done asignmen in . Its ridiculous,” said Bernal.

This is not the only problem in the high school grading system. the lack of a clear and consistent late work policy is something that will be improved for next year.

“Late work will have a 3 day waiting time to turn it in. If (its) not turned in its a 40; there are no more IEs,”said Gold.

The charge of IEs is something that will help highscholles become more punctual when turning their work in. Tatiana Velez  11th grade student gives her critiques on the IE system this year.

“ IEs are something that has to be changed this has made many people wait till last minute to hand in everything and this messes up the teachers grading schedule,” said Velez.

Many students complain about how much teachers take to put grades in. One of the primary problems is that most student hand in late work and grades are not complete.

“The grading system has to change in order for the student to show their academic efforts,” said Bernal.
