#Twitter is trending at TCS

Twitter is a social media that has not been favored in The Columbus school community, unless you’re following your favorite personalities, sports team or politicians. Not many students use it as a way to communicate their views or tweet something silly. Students tend to use it for important business. Medellín’s twitter community was reduced but for about a month a number of students have become part of the Twitter community and joined the trend of tweeting their opinions or views.

“I used Twitter with the purpose of keeping up with soccer news, but since most of my acquaintances have Twitter, now I can tweet about inside jokes I have with them,” 2016 Columbus school graduate Martin Cardenas said. The general idea people have about Twitter has evolved in the past two months. People have started to understand that it is not foolish to have twitter and that they have been shaped all of their lives to think twitter is dull when it is actually just as any social media that you can mold it to use it however you please. The app can be used professionally and for entertainment purposes. “I have twitter to keep up with news and politics but I have recently followed some of my classmates because they’re amusing. I like to keep my feed serious so I don’t like other people’s tweets but I like to see them,” Martin Velasquez, 11th grade student, remarked. This is an example of how views on Twitter have evolved in the past month and how it has been being utilized for alternative purposes.

“It took a lot of convincing for me to create a Twitter because I had this mentality that the people who tweeted weren’t as cool, but after I saw everyone who tweets nowadays, I decided to join this community,” María Antonia Robles, senior at TCS, stated. Some students still have the mentality that twitter is not cool or dumb but with some convincing some change their mind and learn that as it is with any other social media, it is cool if you mold it to your likes and you can use it even if you don’t tweet, you can look at tweets from other people that interest you. “I was embarrassed thinking people from the school would find my twitter, that’s why it was private but the twitter ‘community’ is so inclusive that I decided to take it off private mode and interact with the ‘community,’” Robles mentioned.

People that have been tweeting for a while know that the Twitter community is very supportive and inclusive, it doesn’t judge and it is very friendly. “I have been part of the twitter ‘community’ for a while and they’re the nicest people you will or will not meet in your life they’re accepting and they don’t care who your friends are or who you are; once you’re part of the community you’re everyone’s friend.” Eliana López, junior at TCS, mentioned.

Twitter is a place for your every mood, if you’re sad you can tweet about it, if you’re happy, you can tweet about it and the beauty of it is that you have people from all around the world who will be able to relate to your current mood and support you through it. “After the chemistry AP if you looked for the hashtag #chemistryAP you would find people making jokes about how hard the exam was and you would feel connected with how good or bad everyone felt on it,” Maria Antonia Aristizabal junior at TCS mentioned.

Twitter is a place to connect with people, to feel supported by a community, to be part of something. Twitter is a safe place where you can find people who are just like you, people who have the same sense of humor or same political views, people who will laugh at your funny stories when your friends won’t. It doesn’t matter if you’re shy or quiet, on twitter everyone’s your friend and people don’t judge. “I tweet about politics mainly even though I am not old enough to vote yet I have a lot to say about politics, one of my politics tweet got more than one thousand likes, almost five hundred retweets, and more than one hundred replies, I’m not even followed by one hundred people, that’s the impact Twitter has on everyone’s life and I’m new to twitter.” Rosario Jaramillo senior at TCS stated.
