Seven TCS students are participating in several different semester-long courses at EAFIT from January through May searching for their future paths.

Students enrolled in the semester course choose one first-semester class to incentivize studying in EAFIT and experience university life. Even students that are not studying in Colombia decided to take this opportunity to find out more about their interests.

“I want to study abroad, but last semester I decided to enroll in the business semester course at Eafit because it helped me make my final decision on choosing my career,” Senior Maria Jaramillo said.

There is one Grade 10 and 11 student and five Seniors. Seniors Sofia Gaviria, Esteban Botero and Valentina Garces are studying business administration, Susana Uribe and Juanita Munoz product design engineering, Martin Gutierrez in music, and Emiliana Gomez in economics.

“I am enrolled in the administration course which will help me choose the right career, maybe it’s going to make me notice that it is not the right one or it might be it, I’m still not sure,” Senior Valentina Garces said.

Students who successfully pass the course and later decide to enroll at EAFIT will receive full university credit. Students who do not attend EAFIT will not receive credit, but a valuable experience.

“Since I successfully passed the semester course I took if I finally decide on EAFIT I could approve this class and have an advantage,” Jaramillo said.

As these courses are directed to inspire students, with most classes offered in the evenings. Even though the university does not guarantee the course will not interfere with the TCS school schedule.

“Since we are still in school, Sofi and I decided to choose the 6 pm class that goes until   9 pm. It was very easy to choose, there were a lot of options that benefited us as they didn’t interfere with school,” Garces said.

Students also get to experience university life. It is different from high school since each student manages their own time and there is more independence. Many of the participants have met new people and built new relationships.

“University life is amazing! People are in their own world doing their own thing. Not like in school that you get made fun of for everything you do, also you get lifelong friendships,” Garces said.

EAFIT is interested in students enjoying the huge campus known among students as, Centro Comercial because of the multiple dining options, beauty salon, sports complex, mini market, banking correspondent, bicycle renting, resting zone, and other campus features. The main goal of EAFIT is for students to spend their whole day on campus now that times in between classes could get extended, and for students coming from abroad to be able to grocery shop and do their personal care inside the university.

“I am very grateful that EAFIT offers this many things on campus, as an exchange student it facilitates my life and I don’t get that lost in Medellin trying to find basic needs,” Sara Saldarriaga, Current Eafit Student, said.
