The Columbus School foundation has the primary goal to help people that are less fortunate around the area to get a quality education. The foundation came together 25 years ago when  a mountain, name Villatina, collapsed and left many in need. The school came to the peoples rescue in a call of help after this tragedy that left many homeless, and in hunger. Nowadays the students aren’t as informed about the foundations doing or how they can help the foundation.

Mary Luz Mesa haswork with the school since the foundation was found at the time she worked in elementary she is know currently the director of the foundation. “Our objective is to help in education to the population who needs it, what happens when you get involved in helping with education there’s a million of other things that come with it,” said Mesa. Many TCS community members don’t know that what the school does is give an opportunity for people from the area to receive an education.  There are many ways in which this people need help education is just the primary goal. To get a good education there are other factors having a balanced diet, warm cloths, hygiene products, medicine , and much more. This is why the school gives us the opportunity to donate food, clothes, money ect.

Alejandra Ruda is one of many of the highschool students that fill enriched by helping the foundation. “The school holds many events like Cartas al Niño Dios, Noche de Velitas, and Dia de la Familia. I have personally helped in Cartas al Niño Dios and sometimes assisting with el ropero. I find a certain satisfaction in giving back to others,”said Rueda.  The School encourages their students with many events to help the less fortunate. In this events even though you earn the satisfaction of giving back to others you can also complete the required hours of social service.  

Barbara Cargnelutti one of the moms from the columbus school uses her free time to come and help the foundation.”I wanted to work with the foundation to do something that would help others, I have some free time and i like to spend it in the school helping a good cause”said Mrs Cargnelutti. What many don’t understand about foundations is that there are many areas in which you can help and they all can receive an immense amount of help as there are many in need. Giving back is an act of selflessness in which you can also benefit by becoming a better person

The Columbus Foundation offers an amazing opportunity of education for many across the area. The foundation also offers the students of the school the opportunity to give back to others that are less fortunate and don’t have the opportunity of an education as we do. We can give back to our community in more than one way. The people who are helped in the foundation are very needed and any help that we can provide them with is extremely encouraged, and well received .
