Ana Tobon on “Distance Learning Should Not Imitate In-Person Teaching”

In the article “Distance Learning Should Not Imitate In-Person Teaching” by Sara Ortega, she writes about the consequences that distance learning has evoked in students while simultaneously addressing the role institutions should play in encouraging their school members to succeed. Regarding the author’s perspective, I completely agree with their well-argumented way of thinking. Supported with facts, the author states that distance learning has a significant impact on students as it caused increased cheating rates, less academic support and a decline in student’s interest in school. The author not only includes problems, but she also makes sure to encourage and provide solutions for these institutions to develop in their online teaching programs. Throughout the article, I could see appropriately structured, well-written, and supported arguments based on the author’s opinions. Even though this writing was aimed to show different ways that distance learning has impacted students, it also provides counterarguments that make the writing structure stronger. It expresses that even though virtual learning has been a challenge to many, it all depends on each students’ level of academic responsibility and commitment to the subject, teacher, and school. Moreover, the author approaches the different mindsets and pressures that have been constantly applied to students by their institutions. My only recommendation for the author is to include perspectives and feelings that come from students regarding the topic in order to boost the argument even more. Overall, I would consider this article to be informative and the arguments in it are very well-supported.

Sincerely,
