Best Course at TCS, AP Calc of Course

Many high school students wonder what classes they should take. They see tons of courses AP, arts, and creative classes; but only one elective to choose. While many students struggle with this choice, I recommend the best class in high school, AP Calculus.

The course has one of the highest success rates in the school. For the year 2016 and 2017, 98% of students pass the exam with an average score of 4.6 out of 5. This shows the classes tried and true formula teaches students what they need to ace the test. The class dynamic is the teacher explains the topic and then in the binders, there’s a ton of practice problems from previous AP exams on that topic.

The course teacher Gaby Passitino guides students through all the topics starting by the basics and developing into the deep theory. She is always ready and willing to help students with any questions or difficulties they have. She has an unparalleled love and devotion to her students. Coupled with thousands of practice problems where students test their understanding and can ask their classmates or the teacher with any difficult questions. This makes for an understandable class for students are insured to get a high score in their AP exams. This success is based on great teaching and practice strategies that lead students to success.

AP Calculus is something colleges pay attention to when applying. According to Sam Edelstein, a previous AP Calculus teacher, “Calculus is the main courses colleges look when you are applying to go to college,” Edelstein said. Also, the course dives deep into complex math topics and its rigor and fast pace is on par with college courses. This prepares students to excel in college-level courses. The course prepares students well through all the tough exams and worksheets that a college level course requires. Also, it teaches students to monitor their time because the teacher won’t police them around at all. Finally, gets a college course requirement out of the way for students choose to take the AP exam and looks great on a college application. When students ace the AP exam it looks great on their college application and is a factor that can get students into colleges abroad. This makes AP calculus the premier option for trying to study abroad, or anything doing with engineering.

The class gives students one of the most powerful tools in today’s world, a deep understanding of calculus. Calculus comes from the Latin word for small pebble. This indicates the meaning of calculus because calculus is the math that calculates infinitesimal values. It has million of application that can help students solve problems in their business, jobs, and even day to day life. Imagine that a company is trying to solve what price a product should be sold at. With the insights of calculus, students can gather the necessary data, analyze it, and get the right answer. Without calculus, students would be stuck unable to reach a definitive answer and probably arriving at the wrong answer. Students could find the which barrel contains the most liters beer per dollar, how to maximize their time and do cool shapes from lines. The tool of calculus is literally something other class can give their students.

Most students think that the only people that can take and succeed in AP calculus are math geniuses that were made for that class. Calculus is a tough class but it is possible. “Every single person who wants to, can succeed in the course, You know I’ve had students that failed in pre-calculus and succeed in AP calculus,” Edelstein said. Calculus is a complicated topic but the course guides students through them. Success in this course depends on the effort of the student. This means anyone can master the concepts and plow through AP calculus. After, the argus journey the feeling of finally completing the goal is spectacular. This course isn’t made only for geniuses it is made for any HS student.

Most sophomores and juniors have made their choice of which math optative they should take next year. Most opted out of AP calculus because they thought the class wasn’t for them. They should ponder if they made the right decision and whether or not the class is for them. The only way to find out is by trying the best course in the school.
