Bullfighting Should Stay Legal

I’ve been visiting bullfighting arenas since I can remember, and witnessed beauty and art many times. I get furious when someone who doesn’t understand this traditional cultural event wants to ban it.  Bullfighting is a tremendous spectacle that can’t even be compared with magic or art.

Bullfighting brings back to life the traditions of Imperial Spain. It’s a three act drama that centres on a man on the ground in a huge arena dancing with death. This tradition was brought to Medellin in the 1940’s and since then has created an incredible fanaticism. The world’s best “toreros” have come from all around the world to demonstrate their talent to the “paisas”.

This passionate event brings together a bull that has only seen fields, naturally angry entering a crowded arena where a professional matador is waiting for him dressed in a colorful traditional custom to teach him the art of “el toreo”.

Beef cattle live for 18 months in stables that are in horrible conditions and then get killed, chicken live all their life in 30 by 30 cm cells just laying eggs, pigs are designed to live 20 years but they’re killed at the age of 5. Bullfighting bulls are treated with the best possible conditions, with absolutely no human contact, in the most beautiful fields just eating and reproducing all day for 5 years. Later they get the opportunity to survive or a glorious death in an arena were the public claps their performance; but animal protectors still want to ban bullfighting. Juan Pablo Gomez

My parents have gone for 20 consecutive years but in the present they’re in protest against the “antitaurinos” because they don’t agree with the ways they have addressed their differences. Haters don’t realize that bullfights are impossible to ban because of all the economic help they give to the government. With the protests they’re harming the culture and beauty of this event, bulls are going to keep dying anyway.

My parents witnessed the great “corridas” at La Macarena in Medellin in the 1980’s and 1990’s; for them,  it was the most beautiful time of the year. Bullfights should keep being legal, it would be absolutely terrible to ban an event with so much tradition and culture.
