As the end of the school year approaches, the halls of The Columbus School are filled with a bittersweet energy. The Class of 2025 stands at the threshold of graduation, preparing to leave behind more than just memories, they are leaving a legacy.
Throughout this year, the seniors have shaped the school community in ways that will last long after their departure, from creating new traditions to setting an example through leadership, academic excellence, and resilience.
Senior Class President Santiago López reflects on his role leading the class through its final year. “My job has been not only about the logistics of senior activities but also about carrying the emotional weight of ending this chapter,” he shared. Santiago believes the identity of this class lies in its dual commitment to respect and academic excellence, a rare and powerful combination. “Our spirit is very positive,” he said. “This year especially, there has been a strong sense of unity among us.”
For a loved and appreciated teacher Gloria, who has witnessed thirteen graduating classes at TCS, the Class of 2025 holds a special place. “This class taught me the meaning of true love for the school and a deep sense of belonging,” she said warmly.
Gloria emphasized that what defines a class is not only its achievements, but how it navigates challenges, and this senior group has faced their share. “Throughout the year, they encountered many obstacles, but they managed them with maturity and worked hard to leave their mark, especially academically,” she noted, recalling their preparation for critical exams like the ICFES.
One particularly memorable moment for Gloria was the Halloween celebration. “It stood out to me because the seniors showed respect, school values, and a beautiful sense of community spirit,” she shared.
Younger students are already feeling the impact of the seniors’ influence. Marco Garza, an underclassman, mentioned how watching the seniors take initiative and show respect throughout the year motivated him to get more involved in school life. “They’ve shown us what it means to be proud of where you come from and to give back,” he said.
As the seniors prepare to move forward, Gloria offered heartfelt advice: “Make better decisions, listen to the advice of older people, think before you act, respect others and yourself, and always find reasons to be happy.”
Santiago, when asked what he hopes the legacy of the Class of 2025 will be, paused before answering:
“That we were a class that made things better — for ourselves, for the school, and for those who come after us.”
“Through their respect for school values, and through their resilience in the face of challenges, the Class of 2025 has left behind more than just memories. They have built a foundation for future students — a legacy of leadership, respect, and community that will echo through the halls of The Columbus School for years to come.” Gloria, said.
