The senior yearbook is a cherished tradition, capturing memories and celebrating the accomplishments of a graduating class. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of students works tirelessly to gather content, design the layout, and ensure that the yearbook reflects the unique spirit of their class.
For the Class of 2024, creating the yearbook has been a collaborative effort marked by creativity, dedication, and a desire to capture the essence of their high school experience. Students have taken on various roles, from gathering content to designing layouts, ensuring that the yearbook is a reflection of their shared memories and individual personalities.
“The Nunca Olvidaremos” section is meant to highlight important events that have marked us as a class. … These are moments that made us laugh, brought us together, and became unforgettable memories. They’ve shaped our generation in unique ways and reflect what makes us special,” Isabel Acosta, senior, said.
To ensure that the Nunca Olvidaremos section truly reflects the class’s collective memory, Acosta and her team are actively seeking input from their peers. They’re not just relying on their own ideas, but are actively engaging with the student body to gather suggestions and feedback.
“We rely on popular demand … people suggest ideas, and we’ve conducted surveys to gather input about what our peers consider the most memorable moments,” Acosta said.
While gathering input from their peers is essential, Acosta and her team also face challenges in creating a yearbook that is both comprehensive and unique. They want to ensure that the yearbook captures the essence of their class while also avoiding repetition from previous years.
“One of the main challenges has been finding unique experiences that haven’t been covered by previous yearbooks. We want to avoid repetition and ensure that this section reflects fresh, original memories,” Acosta said.
To overcome this challenge, the yearbook team has implemented several innovative strategies. They’re not just relying on traditional methods, but are actively seeking new ways to engage with the student body and gather unique perspectives.
“This year, we’ve focused more on public surveys and sought greater involvement from people outside of the yearbook committee, this way, we can include ideas that are unique to different social groups and reflect a broader range of experiences,” Acosta said.
In addition to the Nunca Olvidaremos section, the yearbook features another popular section called “¿Quién No?,” which highlights shared experiences and memories that everyone in the class can relate to.
“The ¿Quién No? section is a place where we highlight things that everyone in our grade has done, seen, or experienced throughout high school. It’s all about those shared memories during our time at the school,” Juana Upegui, senior, said.
Upegui’s enthusiasm for the project is contagious, and it’s clear that she’s passionate about creating a yearbook that her classmates will cherish. She’s actively seeking input from her peers, and she’s confident that the ¿Quién No? section will be a hit with the class of 2024.
“It’s been a lot easier than I expected. Many people have participated by sending me their ideas, and I’ve also reached out to my friends to brainstorm. There’s been great involvement from everyone, which has made the process fun and collaborative,” Upegui said.
The collaborative spirit of the yearbook project is evident not only in the ¿Quién No? section, but throughout the entire publication. Students from all walks of life are working together to create a yearbook that reflects the diversity and richness of their high school experience.
“The leaders of the different sections have done a great job, as they are constantly asking for feedback and approval from the rest of the year,” Rafael Martinez, senior, said.
Martinez’s positive feedback is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the yearbook team. They’re not just creating a yearbook; they’re creating a lasting legacy for the Class of 2024.
“I hope they’ll feel a sense of pride and connection when they look back at the section, I want them to remember our time here with a smile, laughing at the inside jokes and remembering the special moments we all experienced together,” Upegui said.
