In a heart-stopping final, The Columbus School girls’ basketball team triumphed over La Salle Envigado in overtime, securing victory by a single basket in the invitational tournament.
The intense match, hosted by The Columbus School, showcased the determination, teamwork, and resilience of the players, leaving spectators energized and inspired as the team celebrated this remarkable achievement.
“We trained hard and stayed focused; this win means a lot to us,” Sara Galeano, 10th grade student, said.
The game’s excitement peaked during the final seconds of the fourth quarter, when a critical play sent the match into overtime.
“With ten seconds left, I made the pass for the tying basket it was a moment I’ll never forget,” Galeano recalled.
The home crowd played an important role in motivating the team, fueling their energy and focus during the intense moments.
“Feeling the crowd’s pride and excitement pushed us to give our all,” Galeano shared, emphasizing the impact of the spectators.
The coach’s leadership and encouragement also proved crucial in maintaining the team’s confidence and composure.
“Our coach kept reminding us that we were the best and to keep a positive mindset,” Galeano noted.
Spectators marveled at the sportsmanship and skill displayed by both teams throughout the game.
“The level of play was incredible for a high school game, clean and skillful basketball,” Bill Beauchamp, teacher and spectator, said.
The match’s thrilling conclusion highlighted the growth and dedication of The Columbus School’s girls’ basketball team over the season.
“This team has worked hard to improve their skills and teamwork, and it showed in their performance,” Beauchamp added.
“This win is a testament to our persistence and passion…and we’re ready to keep pushing for future victories,” Galeano recalled.
