For seniors, this day is much more than just dressing up, it’s a chance to create lasting memories with their classmates before they graduate. Each year, the senior class spends weeks deciding on a costume and planning their grand entrance, often decorating a car or truck to fit the theme.
This Halloween tradition has become a key part of the senior experience, bringing them closer and reminding them of the unique bond they share. The decision-making process for the costume is a collaborative one, with seniors discussing ideas, voting, and narrowing down choices until they find something that feels right for the whole group. They aim to choose a costume that represents their class’s personality and will make a strong impression on the rest of the school.
“We wanted a costume that would represent us as a group, something fun that we could look back on with a smile,” Miguel Sanin, senior, said.
Just as important as the costume is the type of vehicle they will use to make their entrance. From pickup trucks to convertibles, the 12-Graders pick something that matches their theme and adds excitement to their arrival. It’s not only about the costume but the entire experience of entering together, sharing laughs, and making that first big entrance unforgettable.
“The vehicle was just as important as the costume, it’s all about that first impression as we arrive together,” Maia Gallon, senior, said.
For teachers, watching the senior Halloween tradition unfold is a reminder of how it brings the school together and allows students to express themselves creatively. Teachers see the event as a valuable tradition that bonds them, while creating a long-lasting memory of an unforgettable day, and end their high school journey on a high note. They also notice that the event creates positive energy for the entire school, as students of all ages look forward to it each year.
“It’s a great way to see the camaraderie between the classes, especially the seniors,” Brian Summers, teacher, said.
Younger students are also inspired by this tradition, looking forward to the day when they’ll have their turn as seniors. Watching the students arrive each Halloween in their costumes not only adds excitement to the day but also strengthens school spirit and gives students something special to look forward to as they move up through the grades.
“This tradition will be one of the memories I take with me, it’s something that connects us all,” Sara Sanchez, 10th grader, said.
