With MUN ( Model United Nations) season coming up, students may wonder how the overall experience is as well as how to be chosen for the bigger fish such as an MUN in a completely different country.

External Model United Nation Models are coming up and doubts about these experiences start rising up. Students also start to wonder about how exactly to be chosen for an international MUN. However, some students are helping resolve these doubts by telling their past experiences with these external models.

“My take based on by experience with the model in another country is that it’s really a great experience because it is an opportunity we have to be outside of the country as well as bringing people together, it gives you a lot of opportunities to learn and for your future,” Daniel Meneses, COSMUN chair member and former delegate of the switzerland MUN said.

In addition, Meneses also commented about his whole experience being in a Model United Nations that took place in another country and what he took from it.

“I think that I improved a lot in my whole debating skills because it’s something that we have the opportunity to see the opinions from people from all around the world and I also had a lot of fun with people I didn’t know which were new learning experiences that helped me,” Meneses stated.

But how exactly does a student get to participate in an external model? The good news is that almost anybody can apply for an MUN in another school, however, it is a completely different story for a Model in another country.

“What you need is the profile to be a delegate or chair member of the MUN, a while ago I posted a document in schoology where it basically told the interested students about the characteristics of leadership development and academic prosperity needed in order to be considered for this MUN, the person must also not have any ‘faltas graves‘ either, Enrique Macia, COSMUN and other external MUN’s coordinator said.

Finally, Macia also explained the whole process of choosing the External MUN to be in New York For this school year.

“New York is a good place to meet the UN headquarters and it was basically chosen because we have heard very positive references of that MUN and the idea is to go to MUN’s that allow the students to confront themselves,” Macia stated.
