Vocational Exam Helps 11th Graders Decide Future

11th-grade students at The Columbus School presented vocational exam on April 4th to have a general idea on possible future carriers based on the student’s personality and way of thinking.

This exam helps students analyze their strengths and efficiency in doing tasks. Based on this the exam recommends students ideal jobs that match their personality. The exam caused different opinions from the students since many liked the activity but others did not agree with the results.

“I wanted to do it because I like many subjects but I did not know what was I more apt for, so I took the exam to see on what I am good at,” Benjamin Vergnaud, 11th grader said.

One of the most difficult questions high school students face is knowing what to study. The vocational exam recommends you careers you could study based on your strengths and thing on which you are not to efficient, so even though you know what to study, the exam gives you other possible options.

“Personally I just wanted to see what results I would get, how would it interpret my answers and what possible options it could give me. I know it would not be something that would determine what I would study because I already have that really set but I just wanted to see what it would recommend me,” Gabriel Vallejo, 11th grader said.

Some students were really happy with the results. The exam recommends them the career they had in mind, or at least the proposed jobs matched with their personalities and their strengths.

“They did match, especially in geology. Not so much on the drug part due to the fact that I am not empathetic, but the geology part was very fit since I like the outdoors. I am interested in processes and mathematics,” Vergnaud, 11th grader said.

Some students were disappointed with their results because the exam proposed jobs that they did not like at all. Others were also disgusted because the exam told them they were not going to be successful at the jobs they liked.

“I feel like it did not help me at all, I have been quite into engineering but the exam said that I was not going to be successful for any engineering. I got one star which is the lowest score on the test, and I got four stars on hotel management which is something I really do not feel was right, ” Vallejo, 11th grader said.

Overall the exam helped most of the people see their strengths and efficiencies, mainly helping them decide what to study and where to study.

“The exam help me decide on what specific carrier I can be good at, taking into account my personality and the relationship I have with other people,” Vergnaud, 11th grader said.
