To bring closer the 10th grade group and to work on their Character Counts, Andres Rendon and Ana Isabel Garcia, HS counselors, create activities in Comfenalco Piedras Blancas in the Arvi park.

The Columbus School 10th grade students make part of their yearly convivencia by participating in activities that consist on teamwork and competition.

“To walk form the bus stop to where we were going to be all day, we did a team activity in which a leader had to guide their team blindfolded in a rocky path and we worked on trustworthiness, ” Ana Isabel Garcia, HS counselor, said.

TCS students with grades that are about 120 students, often don’t have the opportunity to get to know all of their grade and actually interact with them, this convivencia gave them that opportunity that they were lacking of.

“It is a space that allows 10th grade students to integrate with other that frequently don’t, it favors the interpersonal knowledge with activities that will challenge themselves all while we support institutional values,” Ana said.

10th graders started the day with an introduction of all the rules and the expectations, then they did the blindfolded activity and lastly they participated on some competitive team activities that help them to integrate with each other.

“We first had to build a high “wall” with PVA sticks and all of us had to jump to the other sides without touching it, and we had to maintain in contact with all of the group. Later we took some broom sticks and two people held them while one person walked on top of the sticks without falling,” Valeria Ostrovsky, TCS 10th grade students, said.

The Columbus School as well as both High School counselors gave time and resources for this activity that only happens once a year and has very valuable goals.

“It is very important for all students to assist because it is a different opportunity to share with their grade level and for others to know them,” Ana said.

Every year after the convivencia Ana Isabel and Andres Rendon take time to do feedback about that years convivencia, this year Karol Marin, Sociales teacher, gave all her classes for the convivencia feedback that the counselor will always try to improve.

“Sometimes it may help the process of integration between students as it also makes as a barrier to open up or integrate for some,” Ana said.
