Thanks for Everything Vicky Jaramillo

Everyone in high school knows Vicky Jaramillo. They know how sweet she is and the important job she has at school.  Also, everyone knows that she is changing her job at the school, meaning there will be some changes at high school. The biggest change she made while vice principal was the students’ discipline.

Vicky Jaramillo has work at this school for 30 years. Next year she will be working in another position here at school. Her decision to change is because she wanted a new opportunity, and also because her retirement is coming soon. She has helped students with their problems, and also their discipline. Still with all the things she needs to do, she loves all of the students.

“This year is my last year as High School Vice-principal, from July I will be working as director of Colombian curriculum. I am changing my position because in one year I will be retiring from my work to make new stuff, and be more relaxed, ” Vicky Jaramillo, High School Vice-principal, said.

Several students have lots of discipline problems. Where they have to face Vicky Jaramillo and accept what they did– knowing they could receive a reflection they have to do. Still this is something positive because it makes them think before they act like little kids again.

“Last year I was a very undisciplined. I got into many problems. Since I went to Vicky’s office to talk about them, I made a promise with her to be more disciplined, and that’s what I am trying to do,” Miguel Salazar, 11 grade student, said.

Students need to feel comfortable at school. They need someone that protects them from the bullies or prevents them from becoming one. Studies show that school’s Vice-principals are very important, and they are capable of helping students in whichever circumstance they are in.

“The school needs someone apart  from the psychologist to help our kids, and someone like Vicky Jaramillo was perfect. For example, Samuel last year was off task almost all the time, but one day Vicky called his attention and made him promise a change, since then he has been more attentive in class,” Juan Camilo Villegas, Columbus parent, said.

Another reason Vicky was a great Vice-principal of HIgh School, was because she worried about students’ futures. She tries to convince kids to seek  new opportunities they can achieve. If they have a problem, she ask them if they need help with it, to achieve these opportunities. If they committed a mistake that can affect these opportunities, she seeks a way to mend the problem, so the student understands their error, but still achieve their goal.

“Once I committed a mistake with some friends, this problem was pretty bad, making us sign a reflection, but before that Vicky asked us if I wanted to participate on NHS, I said no, but I was thankful because she offered me an opportunity, which was being affected with the reflection,” Simon Pelaez, 11th grade student, said.

On the other hand she realizes that for her, The Columbus School community made a great impact on her, now that it’s her favorite part of High School. She has handled many types of students during all the years she is been at the school, but still she loves them all.

“The best part of High School are my students, for me it’s hard to leave, because the best part are all of you, teachers and parents, who I love the most,” Jaramillo, said.

Vicky is one of the best Vice-principals this school has. She helps everyone in need, but the most important is that High School is a secure place for the students. It is a shame that next year she will not be in High School any more. We hope the next Vice-principal is as weas she was.
