High school students during Halloween 2024 went all out with their effort and imagination to create fun and creative costumes, creating an enjoyable atmosphere while setting an example of how to act for younger generations.
This year’s costumes were a mix of humor, boldness, and creativity, the boys’ costumes stole the show, showcasing a range from full-body paint characters to skirts and dresses. The students chose memorable costumes to give the school a good laugh, demonstrating the closeness in the community. Students were inspired to make funny costumes to have a great time at the event.
“Knowing that it would be a funny costume, would be a fun way to have Halloween at the school,” Pablo Kim, an 11th-grade student, said.
When thinking about how to get inspired for their fun and creative costumes, students took ideas from movies and TV shows as examples. They were trying to impersonate characters in a fun way, there were students who dressed up as princesses, The Simpsons, and college girls.
“We got inspired by the movies, because we saw that many girls like to dress like that (small crop top and mini skirt), and we wanted to make a funny costume and dress like college girls,” Jeronimo Carvajal, an 11th-grade student, said.
Students preferred to dress in costumes to enjoy the day having fun with their best friends. Some chose this to represent all the characters of the TV series or just to have the support of their best friends when having a comical dress.
“I think that it was way better to do it as a group now that it would make the costume easier to understand, and it also makes it funnier,” Kim said.
Students from lower grades enjoyed watching the costumes and getting inspiration for their future. Younger kids observe high school students and set them as an example of the way they dress and act.
“My favorite costume was The Simpsons and most of the high school ones were very creative and I enjoy doing creative costumes,” Matias Restrepo, 7th grade student, said.
After high school students felt observed by the younger generations and the school staff, and they started to get costumes on how school-appropriate their costumes were. Looking back, some students would like to make some changes to improve their costumes, the improvements are related to the quality and what it is in the dress code.
“ I feel really good about the costume we chose because I think it was a really fun costume, but I wanted to change the skirt so it will be longer, so they don’t give us problems about the dress code this course,” Carvajal said.
As students see the other costumes during Halloween they don’t have a rivalry with each other, instead, they support and give honest opinions about the other ideas.
“For me, the best one was the Paulo Suarez group; which was of some angels, because it was more original. It was more creative, like all the details the costume had and the way they did it with the wings,” Carvajal said.
