La Guajira Climate Action

In this picture we can see a very evident problem which is drought. This is a desert in La Guajira, in northern Colombia,  where the indigenous tribe called the Wayuu, used to grow crops. Because this region has become so dry, now they can’t. The biggest problem is that in La Guajira it almost never rains and when it does, it  doesn’t make the land more fertile because so little is absorbed. La Guajira is also facing another problem which is scarcity of water because of usage by the nearby coal mine. This leaves little for them to cook, drink, or take a bath. One solution to this was when the Columbus School built water wells with solar powered pumps to pull water from the ground into the community. And another solution would be installing rainwater collection systems to have more than one way to take care of the issue.
