Garbage in Heaven

La Guajira is a beautiful paradise to go and relax in, but it’s full of plastic. Maicao, Guajira is a town where  you can see the amount of garbage that there is in the side of a street. All of the bushes and trees are completely filled with plastic. I think that my topic addresses  both of my sustainable goals because the trash that is in la Guajira is something that is destroying the environment and animals’ habitats. For example La Guajira has some of the strongest winds of all the country so all of the plastic and trash that people leave on the ground flies away and ends up in the middle of the seas killing many animals that eat it or get tangled in it. La Guajira is a very dry place because it’s a desert so it’s very hard for people to survive with contaminated water when it is already so scarce. Also because of all the plastic and contamination the people are leaving a very big carbon footprint from consuming so much plastic, and the higher that the footprint is then the more climate change there is. Climate change is  something that is destroying the world and we are starting to see many effects of it, and it’s one big problem affecting la Guajira. So all of the garbage and plastic that is thrown away are making climate change and water contamination bigger problems, which are making people’s lives harder.

There are also solutions for this problem. We can start by teaching  the people to recycle and care for their surroundings. If we start by doing this then the garbage that is already in the desert and water is not going to go away, but at least the people will start to care more and maybe we can start to see some improvement and less garbage being thrown away. Another solution would be to create landfills. Landfills would be something that would solve the problem because at least all the garbage that gets thrown away doesn’t end up destroying the animals habitats or the seas, but it gets thrown away and maybe recycled. This is a very big problem and its very hard to solve but if we all work hard we can help and make things better.
