UNODC: In The Pursuit of Happiness

UNODC is hands full in the pursuit to find a legitimate solution to end various issues regarding their subject of political corruption. The prevention of crimes, illicit drug dealing, drug spreading, terrorism, and corruption are only some of the agitated topics that the promising delegates will reportedly discuss in multiple debating sessions.

After the talked-about opening ceremony, on March 8th, the first topic addressed referred to the political corruption emphasizing in its relationship with drug cartels. Drug cartels, being criminal organizations with the intention of trafficking drugs for commercial enterprises, where repeatedly entertained by multiple delegations within the committee with the goal of stating their position.

Damaging encounters, as the day progressed, increased the concern of many delegations obligating the participants to broadcast solutions. Increasing the security in each country and the legalization of drugs were some of the solutions proposed to limit the cartels and reduce the rate of drugs distributed worldwide.

The increase in the security department in countries where drug cartels are hefty and abundant, was a repeated disclosure provided by multiple delegates. Still, with the counterpart’s arguments a prominent discussion surfaced involving the delegations of  Russia and the United States of America that revolved around the management of chemical substances.

Repercussions surfaced by this controversial debate, and common-ground was not obtained. Politicians threatened, homicides and bad health conditions; damaging accouterments increased the concern of the committee, leading them to lay out other fixes to the dilemma.

Allies and enemies were revealed, but always with the purpose of coming to a well-developed ground, that will represent the thriving of all delegations. The committee hasn’t come to a final solution, though as mentioned before some delegations have reflected on the benefit that various resolutions would have on the whole committee and the international community.
