The Lightning Blue Lizards Are Ready for the Competition

The Lightning Blue Lizards are only a few weeks away from traveling to the United States to participate in the 2019 First Robotics Competition held in Miami – Florida. The team has finish the robot and is preparing itself both strategically and mentally to compete against teams from all around the world in order to win.

For the past three weeks, the Columbus School’s robotics team, “The Lighting Blue Lizards” have been building the robot down at the makers space at the side of the High School Coliseum. The team presented many issues with the arrival of the parts being late and not having the same time to build a robot as other teams have. All teams participating in the first robotics competition have a deadline of 6 weeks to work on the robot. The Lightning Blue Lizards were able to finish the robot in only 3 weeks. Even though the time was limited, the robot was finished and performed greatly.

“This season didn’t only gave us a lot of stress, but also a lot of knowledge. With 4 years of experience in two teams, I can definitely say that this has been the team that I have worked the hardest on that I have learn the most on,” Agustin Jaramillo, TCS Senior and Robotics Team leader, said.

For the past 7 months, the robotics team has met every Saturday in order to build a strategy to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. This demonstrates how demanding and how well prepared all the members are in order to achieve a great spot at the competition.

“We got our kit of parts 3 weeks after the kickoff, but I think we did a very good job. I want to congratulate all the students, all the other mentors and we just want to continue participating and work really hard to become champions,” Julian Zuñiga, TCS Teacher and Robotics Mentor, said.

The competition is very demanding for everyone to put their best efforts into the robot. That is why the “Lizards” are building a second robot to practice while the original is taken to Florida. The team will arrive to Miami in March 26, and participate 4 days until March 30.

“I have made a lot of memories and I met a lot of new friends, but the most special, and what I want to highlight and thank the Columbus School for welcoming all of us to the team. We have felt at home and that has been very special,” Juan Felipe Holguin, Robotics Team member, said.
