Teaching without students

Since twelth grade students started their ISP project and no longer have to attend to school, their teachers are still obligated to go until the end of the year.

Even though they no longer have to teach, they are still obligated because of their contract they have with the school, in addition they have this time to finish grading and with the spare time for instance read, or plan the curriculum for next year.

“During these days I have been taking advantage of my time. The first days I have been grading projects, class work, tests and getting caught up from all the late work. In addition I am planning the programs and activities for next year, and in the free time  I like to read,” said Juan Carlos Ledesma Pito.

Teachers utilize their time in many things while others were done a long time ago with the duties therefore they have a lot of free time.

“Several students have come to sing the pasisalvo, I haven’t really been grading because I am waiting for all the late work, also I really enjoy when students come in and visit me,” said Merriah Lamb.

The teachers don’t mind having to come to school since they can help students, that were struggling and the twelve-grade students just show up instead of programing a date. or have to sign the ‘pase y salvo,’ also the work they do at school they would have to do at home and not concentrate enough since it is not a proper work space.

“I think that this isn’t a waste of time, it is easier for students to just come in and find me, instead of making an appointment with any doubt they have,” said Lamb.

Many of the twelth graders still need to come into school to turn in some their late work, talk to teachers, and finish their signatures for their pasisalvo in order to graduate. Therefore it is easier for all the students to have their teachers still available in order to help them in whatever they need.

“It is better to have this time in school, otherwise we would still need to do it at home in our free time, so it is better to have this space in order to finish all our work,” said Pito.
