Teachers In N Out

TCS continues to open its doors for new teachers from all around. Next school year, 2018-2019, the percentage of diverse foreign teachers has escalated significantly, with 9 new teachers coming from all around the world including Mexico, Kenya, and other places.

This year also has been a great loss amongst the staff but this is not bad news. Teachers not only bring new skills to provide to the schools structure, but also new knowledge, new experiences and new ideals; new cultures. This will provide students with an understanding of diversity, something they need if they study abroad.

“You know this year an unusually large amount of people have left, but in international school this tends to be normal. Contracts expire or we ask teachers not to come back, but this particular year for high school it was a little bit higher than other years,” said High School Principal, Roger Arbabi.

Several reasons cause a teacher to leave, they have left a big space to fill. The school has taken advantage of the space, filling it with fresh ideas, faces and lives. This does not only help the schools structure, or students understanding of diversity, but also for teachers who want other nationalities apart from Americans. It creates an inclusive community where teacher don’t feel alienated.

“We have a group of Americans, we have a group of Canadians, we have a group of Colombians, and then it’s me, the only Brazilian,” said 9th grade teacher Getulio Brasil. When asked about the new arrivals, he added, “there could be more nationalities, there is not that to much diversity, for now its okay. Next year there is going to be someone from Kenya, this would bring more [variety].”

This incoming wave of international teachers not only benefits the students. As more diversity comes to the school, there is a greater exchange between teachers themselves, that allows them to improve and learn from others.

“One of my biggest passion is learning different languages besides mine. Teachers from other nationalities can help me with my pasion,” said Brasil.
