TCS Not Playing Intercolegiados

TCS teams have been waiting to play intercolegiados a tournament where teams of all the municipalities play to represent the municipality on the second round. since the beginning of the school year, because they have high chances to play in the next round and play as the municipality of Envigado.

Last week the coaches were told some unfortunate news, the school is not going to participate on intercolegiados for some issues Envigado had on the schedule and the delay the had on starting the tournament. The planning of the tournament was poor and the delay caused most of the problems. “There were a couple issues that happen with intercolegiados, first of all, they were supposed to begin two weeks ago; intercolegiados from Medellin started two weeks ago,” Freddie Badillo sports coordinator said. Playing this tournament was on the school’s plans but this issues did not allow the school’s participation

The school had plans on playing the tournament but as said before it was in some way Envigados fault for not planning things the right way and having the tournament delayed for almost 2 weeks. “I have been talking to some coaches who say that the fault isn’t from the school directives but really from the tournament organizers for Envigado who didn’t really take into account dates, and while in Medellin they started before and now are approaching the finals, Envigado hasn’t even started,” said Isabela Murillo 11th grader and member of the Athletic Council. The only concern of the tournament wasn’t only the planning of Envigado but a major issue are students grades.

IE’s have been a problem all year long not only for athletic events but for many events the school has planned. In this case, they were a major issue because the students that had IE’s or were failing more than 2 classes were restricted from participating. “There were too many students with IE’s so we were not certain if they could be able to play so it was a decision the athletic department, administration and some coaches made,” said Badillo. This was one of the major issues because the school is not going to sign up for a tournament and not have enough players on the teams.

Miscommunication was also an issue since the tournament had lots of problems. The tournament was supposed to start two weeks ago but the communication inside the school was not the best since some of the directives didn’t know about the tournament. “As a principal, I didn’t know about the tournament until last week.  I was not aware that our teams had already signed up and were planning on participating. When the games were brought to our attention, we considered that we were approaching the end of the school and that it was not feasible for our students to be participating,” said Roger Arbabi high school principal. The school will consider the option of playing next year.

This year will be really unlikely, a miracle would be needed for the school to participate “This year there is no way the school participates on intercolegiados since we already send a letter saying that we were not playing,” said Badillo.
