Ropero, a sale of donated clothes by The Columbus School Foundation, collected around 6,000,000.00 COP on Saturday, September 15 .

Ropero consists of school students donating their used clothes to The Columbus School Foundation which is then sold to the columbus school staff and community. This weekend ropero opened its doors at around 6:00 am to 2:00 pm.

“Ropero was created as a way to help school personnel acquire better quality clothing while spending less” Mary Luz Meza (headmistress of the TCS Foundation) said.

Ropero was originally thought out to benefit school personnel, but an increase in quality has attracted much more than just them and has even sparked the attention of several students that can actually be seen purchasing clothes for themselves.

“What has happened throughout the years is that because of it being such an excellent campaign, having clothes in such outstanding state, everyone comes and purchases clothing of Ropero, which is good for us because we need the money” Mary Luz, headmistress of the TCS Foundation, said.

This year Ropero amounted the shocking sum of nearly 6 million pesos, while this might have been a good year in sales Ropero has had better years.

“There has been occasions in which we have reached better profit, the best year Ropero has had so far it collected around 11 million pesos.” Mary Luz stated.

Although this year was indeed a good one, not every single piece of clothing was sold. The clothes that remained within the Ropero are used in many ways people are usually unaware of, proving that the Ropero has surpassed its expectations of simply benefiting school staff and has turned out to be a campaign with much better results.

“Not everything was sold, we had no time and its only a day. Whatever remains is given to other Foundations so that they can also sell them and benefit off of it, we have about 6 boxes filled with old uniforms students no longer use.” Mary Luz stated.

Unsold clothes and their function after Ropero is also a huge reason why the Ropero exists, giving the fact that it does not only benefit The School Foundation but also other foundations throughout Medellin.

“The Foundation we focus on the most when giving away the unsold clothes is Hogar Infantil San Jose, which they then distribute throughout the entirety of Colombia to orphan children. Not to say that we only focus on Hogar Infantil San Jose, any Foundation that asks for our help we do what we can to help them.” Mary Luz said.

The school has proven to be very helpful and supportive with the Ropero campaign and the Columbus School Foundation hopes that that type of support does not stop anytime soon.

“Donations this year were outstanding, overall it was a really beautiful day and we are now looking forward to starting our halloween costumes campaign” Mary Luz said.
