Old Library Legacy Will Continue With The Building of a New One

The most recent construction on The Columbus School is the central building with a plan of having a new administrative building plus a new library and learning spaces for students.

The central tower will be completed on May 2018 but it will be unavailable until the next school year when the administrative and the library floors will be finished. With a cost of 4,321 million pesos, this new building will bring students a new learning space and a bigger and better administration area.

“The Central building will cost 4,321 million pesos. On the second floor the administrative part will be located and the first floor is planned for academic purposes including the new library,” Elen Yepes said.

The new library will be located on the first floor of the new building which will also have some learning spaces for every need that each student have. The first floor is going to be divided in different spaces for different purposes.

“Now the plans and the designs of the new library are focused on what we want. We don’t want a large open space, we want the library to have learning spaces which will be divided in different learning spaces. We want to be a media center because it is going to be way bigger than the space we already have,” Connie Gonzalez, library coordinator says.

The construction plans are defined except for the interior plans. Even though there’s already an idea of how is going to be the interior of both floors, nothing is definite that’s why the library team will be moving to the new building on October or November 2018.

“We already have the construction plans except for the interior. We have an idea of what we want but we need to have everything clear when the building is complete on May.” Yepes says. “On October or November we will be moving to the new building because we have not define anything yet with the architect,” Gonzalez says.

The library team is very excited for the new transition they will be facing in a year meaning that they are going to be relocated in a very different building away from where the current library is located.

“I am very happy and very excited for the new library and the impact that it will have in the TCS community,” Gonzales says.
