Pedestrian path new roof built from lower elementary to fresas parking lot for the safety of students.

One of the most recent investments at TCS is the new roof built for the pedestrian path that students use to enter and exit to the student parking area below Fresas

Since last year, adminsitration identified a growing need to have safer transit areas around school for the entire TCS community. The area that needed the most attention was the pedestrian road, which had an increasing number of students using it to walk in and out of campus. During winter break the directive council hired professional assistance in order to build a better and safer road.

“I think the idea of building a roof for the pedestrian path was a great solution for student transit because in times of winter, especially when it rains, they can get to their cars without getting wet or slipping on the mud.” Elkin, a member of the maintenance team said.

Due to the numerous measures the maintenance team implemented during a long period of time, such as handling traffic for students to walk out safely, the school decided to invest an important amount of money with hopes of improving the user’s experience. However this may not have pleased the users entirely.

“I use the pedestrian path every morning and afternoon and I don’t think it was a good investment on TCS’s part because it was very expensive for what it is. They could’ve saved a lot of money doing something less expensive and spent the money more efficiently on a lot of other things that are also a priority” Martin Palacio, junior student, said.

Some might think this solution was not very strategic and ended up being extremely costly, as some agree that a lot of money was invested into a project that wasn’t fully thought over.

“The maintenance team was trying to help increase student safety for a while, and the school realized they needed a more structured solution. Since winter break we hired external professionals to build this path. and this ended up costing 90 million pesos in total” Andrés Montoya, chief of the maintenance team, explained.

However, students over the past few years have suffered to get to their cars after school due to the sporadic weather. As a result, students had to hope for good weather so they could walk securely to their cars without having to worry about tripping or even injuring themselves.

“I have fallen with the mud over there going to my car and have hurt my elbow really badly” Jacobo Mantilla , 10th grade student, said.

Students safety has been the number one priority in this investment, although some students have not been entirely pleased with the high-priced project, they are thankful and satisfied with the school for working towards the improvement of the community’s health and safety.

“It’s a very important investment because it helps students like me to feel safe while walking down the footpath and preventing danger and accidents” Jacobo Mantilla, said.
