Men’s Soccer Team Struggling to Get a Starting XI

The Men’s soccer team has lost over 20 players since coming from winter break due to its unsolved issues from the Binationals games held in Barranquilla last November.

The soccer team is unmotivated and unwilling to train; they see no purpose because as most of the athletes are seniors they already had their last Binationals. This leaves the three to five players training with no team and no purpose.

“The great majority of the students are seniors and they have a disciplinary problem pending to figure out,” said Urbano Mesa, high school PE teacher and the men’s soccer team head coach.  “For now they are not training.”

The men’s soccer team is the only team undergoing this drastic and sudden blowout in the number of athletes, and with Copa Columbus coming up the team has to resolve its problems and start preparing as any other team in high school.

¨It is all about discipline and motivation, but last November during binationals, they had a setback, and this might have them unmotivated. It’s all about first fixing their problem and for them to understand that even if they won’t have any more binationals this next cup, is their last chance to make things right with the school,¨ said Anibal Andres Betancourt, the high school women’s Volleyball team and PE teacher commented.

As Copa Columbus is the seniors last chance of leaving the school as champions, Urbano seems unsure of what is to come if the situation that transpired in Barranquilla is not solved quickly in order for him to get the team back on track.

“The preparation has to be very good and we were last years champions and we have to try to achieve this objective once again. But without players to prepare with, it is uncertain our spot in this tournament,” said Urbano.
