Love, Simon and Loved the Movie

As a person who enjoys movies very much, I found myself at the theater watching one called Love, Simon. This movie is about a homosexual teen who finds himself keeping a secret and only revealing it to someone anonymously via email.

The movie stars Nick Robinson (also seen in Jurassic World) as Simon Spier, a teen who is struggling to come out to his family and friends and finds himself coming out anonymously to someone called “Blue” via email. The texting starts happening on the school’s computers, Martin Addison logs in Simons computer and  finds out and threatens to expose him to the whole school and town. Call me by your Name is a movie that aired a little bit before Love, Simon and is about a 24-year-old Jewish-American graduate student named Oliver played by Armie Hammer (The Social Network), and he has been invited to live there for the summer. The archaeologist son Elio Perlman 17-year-old Jewish-American-Italian, were further on he would develop feeling he never knew he had for a man. Call me by your Name. It is a different film where the concept of homosexuality is demonstrated. Although it is still often seen as a touchy subject to do a movie regarding the topic of homosexuality.

In Love, Simon there are a variety of characters, and many are of the same age,  which doesn’t give a different idea to the plot for instance all of Simon’s friends are from high highs in Atlanta, his best friend Leah Burke played by  Katherine Langford (13 reasons why). While the other movie the characters have a seven year difference, and seems as if Elio is being manipulated to lie to his girlfriend whom he is cheating on.

Some crucial scenes of the movie are when  Simon was looking through a blog of his school, when he noticed someone anonymously  posted a picture of how he is unable to come out. Simon relates to this and emails him and tries to connect with him and how his situation might be similar. The pose anonymously to each other, Simon as “Jacques” and the other guy as “Blue.” In Call me by your Name when Oliver arrives in Italy and meets the whole family, and their begin the passengers love querriel. In Love Simon, he has people to rely on,  because at the beginning of the movie he says how understanding his family and friends are about this kind of subject while in the other films the boys only have each other and one is younger and doesn’t know what he’s doing.  Also in Love, Simon there is a more controversial twist us to his secret. Simon  dwells with his classmates threat, constantly lying to his friends and family but  in the end he is able to share quality time as he embraces the and not rush into things as his homosesuality is new to him.

There were also technical aspects of the movie which I personally like that made it more impactful was the music was very subtle and went with the mood of the movie. I even found myself looking for a few of the songs after exiting the film.

My overall opinion I have on this movie is that it is a great film were many characteristics exceded expectations, for instance, the characters are well chosen, and it has a proper mood, and it is not a disrespectful movie, in fact, many boys and girls might be struggling with this same problem and can see here happens to others. My sister’s friend was stuck in the same situation where some exposed his sexuality and didn’t give him a chance. Therefore the movie connects to people in a soothing way, and you embrace it.
