Jumping To The Top Charts

“While I was in a medical appointment, I got really bored so I checked my Instagram profile, and I saw a game named Helix Jump. It seemed fun, so I decided to download it. As time passed by, and I played I realized I was in level  2,500, and my free time was over. Time passed so fast while I played this game. Not touching certain colors made it amazing, it wasn’t too difficult or too easy; it was perfect,“ Camila Agudelo, 10th-grader said.

The popularity of the game has increased due to its addicting nature. The term “addicting” is an understatement when it comes to describing Helix Jump, as it is a game people can’t stop playing. The game manages to be difficult enough to keep its players enthralled simple enough not to frustrate them.

How to play

The dynamics of the game are simple: Helix Jump consists of maneuvering a descending ball through different obstacles, each one getting progressively more complicated as the player passes through stages. The way the ball has to go consist of a wrap around a platform, which has different color parts that if you touch you lose. The ultimate goal of the game is to direct the ball in such a way so that it reaches the very bottom without bumping into any of the obstacles in its path. To do so, the player only has to spin a hexagon to release the ball and proceed to manipulate the ball’s directions in order for it to go through the holes free from obstruction. Once the ball reaches the bottom, you proceed to the next level, which does not increase difficulty, they made it this way since passing the level is not about increasing skill, it’s about increasing your score.

What makes it so special

Helix jump is special because it’s never-ending. Like most games, it includes levels which engage your competitiveness with yourself and your friends. As the level changes, so do the colors of the platforms, obstacles and the background. The colors you are playing the game with can make it even easier or harder. “Sometimes all you need are a few minutes of entertainment. A task is bothering you or you’re waiting on something/someone and looking at your Facebook feed for the 800th time is annoying. If that’s the case then you might want to take look at Helix Jump by h8games and Voodoo,” Brandon Boatman, from hardcoregamer.com, said. As Boatman says Helix Jump isn’t a game to stimulate your intellect, its mindless fun, which might just be the reason why people like it so much.

Accessibility and Publicity

Helix Jump is an app available for both Apple and Android phones, and it can be downloaded in the app/play store. The app is being hugely advertised through most social media platforms including Instagram. Through social media, Helix Jump players worldwide are able to connect and share information about the game, making the game itself even more popular. Sharing this with the public incentivizes friends and family to download the app as well, as they want to see how many levels they can pass compared to the player. Apart from being fun and social, Helix Jump can also be relaxing- for Camila, playing the game soothes her daily stress. People with high stress and anxiety levels can also benefit from the game’s relaxing effects, making it a perfect choice for a wider range of people.

Voodoo Games

This is not the first mainstream success of the brand, the brand specializes in making games that are meant to simply pass the time without making you think too much. The brand has a five-star ranking due to its good publicity strategies and their ability to create games for the masses, not the individual. Its other games such as Rolly Vortex and Snake vs Block have also been trending in the past and reached both google play and the app store top charts.

“Though playing games that make me think can be fun, playing ones that are meant to do the opposite is one of the joys in life. Sometimes you just want to relax after a long day or avoid a train of thought with nothing to distract you, Helix Jump is a great fix for this,” Sara Ortega, 9th grader, said.
