Girl Up Movement

Gender equality is a problem in Colombia. Girl Up is a small project that girls from the TCS are doing to end this problem.

The project is called Girl Up, the whole purpose of this project is to make people conscious of what really is feminism and also fight so women can have the same opportunities and rights as men. Helping women that are in need is also a priority of this project so they are going to have events in school like bake sales to raise money.

”This is about creating gender equality in the city and in the country also supporting girls that do not have the resources to have a proper education and generating a consciousness idea of what is feminism and what it is not.” Salome Beyer

Salome Beyer, a 9th-grade student, is the founder and the creator of this project in Medellin. She has been working hard all science the start of the year and already have the year planned and has divided the work among the 14 members of the project. The first event that they are going to have is a bake sale that is happening this week.

“We are working on planning the whole year schedule. We are actually going to have a bake sale next week to gain monetary resources for us to be able to work on our power to power project.” Salome Beyer

Also, they have something called the Power to Power project that is a small activity where they go to a school in Rionegro and they teach people about the importance of human rights and about the history of the world and Colombia. They analyzed what the kids know about their rights and then teach them essential things they need to know.

” We go to Rionegro and we teach boys and girls about the importance of human rights and about history., We analyzed how much they know about their rights and we realized that they did not know anything.” Salome Beyer

The group of women is going to keep working in this program throughout the whole year so if you want to help you can contact president Salome Beyer and join the movement.

“Feminism is important because it is the notion that women and men have equal rights. The first step humanity has to take in order to get to the much-desired peace and balance the world has been looking for.”Salome Beyer
