Expanding consciousness among 8th graders

A powerful, motivational speech was delivered by Natalia Ponce De León this past May 10th. The special guest speaker got invited to TCS by Carolina Zuluaga, middle school counselor.

Natalia Ponce de León was in charge of sharing a pep talk with the purpose of expanding consciousness on resilience among Middle School youngsters the past May 10th. Natalia is a woman who suffered severe skin and muscle injuries due to a violent attack with acid that caused her face to disfigure. After all, she is a strong woman who decided to share her experience with others and teach people how to defeat their own problems.

“The main objective of this talk was to learn from Natalia’s experience, specifically about resilience and how to overcome obstacles in life without adopting the position of a damaged victim, instead being a proud survivor,” explained middle school counselor, Carolina Zuluaga.

As a matter of fact, many students assure to feel much more confident and thankful after this inspirational talk. Resilience is the word that stands for the capacity to recover quickly from problems. The fundamental purpose of this chat was for students to learn this important skill so they can apply it in those moments in life were is needed.

“We as students, take the best out of this external experiences that others have lived; as a result, we know how to react in similar situations if needed. I think this talk helped us a lot due to the fact that events like this may happen to anyone. People should learn how to deal with these unfortunate problems and take the best out of them,” affirmed 8th grade student Elena Martinez.

Adding on to this, TCS counseling sector was really glad to hear such an inspirational speech from an amazing role model, which was able to spread her testimony with those who needed the most. Usually teens and younger people are more vulnerable to feel depressed, this is why Natalia’s talk helped the teenagers forget about stress and learn valuable lessons from these unexpected events.

“This is my story; I decided to share my unfortunate experience with people following the motive of showing them how to be strong and defeat their own problems even if they seem to be unfixable,” expressed De León.
