Coming AP Exams Exert Pressure on Students

Multiple high school students are pressured with the AP exams coming up, they fear that it will interfere with their performance at this exams.

AP exams are arriving on May 15, causing many students to have nightmares as they picture themselves breaking on what is said to be the hardest week of the year. Advanced Placement exams are necessary for those who desire a bright future, but the pressure from the amount of exams, difficulty, and price often make students break.

“AP exams are the hardest exams in the whole school year, causing a huge pressure on students. The key for being successful at this exams is being very well prepared,” Kassie Smith, TCS AP Calculus Teacher, said.

Certain AP students believe their efforts are limited, as all exams take place during the same week altering their performance. They’re sure that by taking multiple exams they’re not going to be able to fully concentrate on each one.

“Many of my classmates and I are currently taking three AP courses. We believe it’s really difficult for us to do our best at the exams as we can’t fully concentrate on each exam when they’re taken in a so short amount of time,” Manuela Betancourt, TCS 11th grade student, said.

AP courses are designed to test advanced and superior knowledge in high school students, this is because they’re college level exams. AP students really need to study the whole school year for succeeding at the exams. Students have never been tested so hard, this exams are really trying to take their knowledge to a whole new level.

“No other exams can be academically compared with the AP. This exams are absolutely challenging and require total effort for success,” Betancourt, said.

Taking an AP exam costs $124 dollars, but the amount can be reduced by 50% if the student has the course over 75%. High school students are terrorized they might not pass the exams knowing how much money is at stake, the hard punishment they would get, and the waste of money it would be.

“I’m taking three AP exams, meaning that I paid 250$ dollars; with discount. This value has me really nervous as I’m aware of the difficulty of the exams and how much money could be wasted,” Betancourt, said.

Even though the AP exams have many students pressured teachers remember students that the pressure will be reduced if they study a lot and complete all the practice their teachers provide.

“I insist that the best thing student’s can do to feel less pressured and have a better performance on the AP exams is study a lot throughout the whole year and really believe they’re prepared,” Smith, said
