Columbus School Seniors Adapt to Changes in Independent Study Project
Changing requirements in the Independent Study Project (ISP) for Columbus School seniors which are to done in May have forced students to work harder.
ISP purpose has changed over eighteen years of experience. TCS administration and sponsors involved a social change into the ISP, this purpose benefits both the company and students. There is a high expectancy from companies, which force seniors to think beyond a simple project.
“Independent Study Project has been modified, through a class called “Innovation for Social Change” students are being formed to create a social impact with the respective company,” Alysa Perreras, ISP director and sponsor, said.
In order to students adapt to the change in the project, teachers created a class to work with their business partner. More specific, seniors have requirements for each class intending to avoid abundant work out of school.
“It has been difficult to adapt to this change, but with the help of sponsors and teachers we are doing a good job. My vision changed over time which made my partner and me look for different company options,” Santiago Ramirez, TCS senior, said.
Beyond the help the school offers, students have been passing through difficulties which make their process extend.
“Companies are thrilled with the work of the students. Most companies are studying the ideas proposed to carry them out,” Vicky Jaramillo, TCS high school vice principal, said.
After a complicated start, students are offering great opportunities to companies which have them delighted.
“The social change in the project involves correct decisions since any error can be vital for the development. We are consulting every movement with the teacher, so as not to get involved in any kind of problem” Pablo Gongas, TCS senior and athlete, said.
TCS students are consulting each movement with their sponsor. Any mistake in the project can be vital for its development.
“The decisions taken by the company have been slow for a good decision-making, we sit down with the entrepreneurs to see how we can help each other. Decisions are communicated for the good development of them” Santiago Ramirez, TCS students, said.
Companies are taking the project with great seriousness and dedication, what is causing the process to be slower.
“Without a doubt, the social change implemented in the ISP has made the project more professional and entertaining. We have made the students leave their comfort zone which has required a greater effort for them leading them to have a better result,” Vicky Jaramillo, TCS high school vice principal, said.
