Candle Night: The Brightest TCS Celebration

Year after year, candle night takes place in Colombia and everybody is a part of that celebration; The Columbus School isn’t the exception. It was a night where everybody enjoyed and came together with others mainly to bond and remain as a family. This event has been a tradition as years go by, thanks to the positive vibes and where values like citizenship and respect for our traditions are celebrated. This important event unifies TCS community, including those who are not students, such as parents, teachers, administration and staff.

Candle night is a special occasion where we can experience a priceless time  with everyone we love and remain united as a school community. “Candle night is a moment where students, parents, and school staff join together to remain as a unified family.” Explained the Middle School secretary Vanessa Martinez Genaro. This is a great chance to bond with family members or friends while you enjoy the candle´s beam and the delicious food that volunteers sell in various stands with multiple food selections which are always a great option for dinner.

Furthermore, assisting to this event is a dazzling experience for people who are involved with TCS due to opportunities of meeting new people who live around you in your daily basis but are unrelated to you and the chance to help out the less fortunate. “This event is a family builder, there are certain families that get together at this time and enjoy the night with their kids.” Assured High School principal Roger Arbabi. As we observed this year, there were extraordinarily great levels from engagement from everybody who attended.

In past years parents would arrive at school, drop their kids, and then pick them up at  the end of the night. The event used to be more of a bonding time for students but as time goes by, parents and alumni also joined in. We could see a significant growth in people attending this event, meaning this holiday has become more and more significant to TCS community.

Candle night stands the test of time and is The Columbus School’s favorite tradition all year round. While some school traditions may come and go, candle night is a perpetual event that will remain even as generations of seniors leave school.
