Be Academy Nurtures The Columbus School

Be Academy, partner of the Columbus School, modifies program created by NYC Dance Teacher Summit congress, where teenagers can learn and train themselves to become future teachers and dance administration experts.

This past July, Mariana Tobon and her co-workers came up with a model inspired by the Dance Teacher Summit’s program according to their needs in the academy. This program is based on a methodology in which adolescent dancers who aspire to involve dancing in their future, are trained to become future dance teachers and experts in managing and understanding a dance academy.

“Team Be is a training program that was created on July of 2017, as some people from the Be Academy administration attended to a conference in NYC, as we saw that other academies had such a program to begin training their oldest students in the academy, in pedagogy, logistics of events and customer service.” said María Lucía Londoño, Academic Coordinator.

Even though this program is relatively new, since the creation of this, Be Academy, has seen an extreme change in their management of the academy and in their dance classes. The team has become a crucial tool in the academy’s daily life. Also all of the Be Dancers have nurture themselves in new information that has helped them to improve as a dancer and as working individual.

“It has been a successful program for everyone, as much for us as for the dancers who belong to the team. On the one hand, the teacher always has external support leading the class to be much productiver. Also the girls on the team have helped us take a huge weight out at the reception, since we train them to understand how it works in administrative terms…” said Mariana Tobón, founder and current owner of Be.

Amalia Triana, Sofia Velasquez and Antonia Velez students of Be Academy have been the girls that have outstand the most in program, now that Triana and Velasquez have now become dance teachers and Velez is now an administration expert.

“It has been a total success, where we will continue learning by traveling to the congress every year, and soon we will extend more. Especially at the Columbus School, where we have found so much talent and desire to absorb new information.” said Tobón.
