Boys Basketball Falls Short in Copa Final
TCS Boys’ team lost out to Colegio Benedictinos in the final of Copa Columbus 32-29 in the upper coliseo.
The team played 3 matches in the two-day tournament on March 6-7. The first game against Colegio San Ignacio ended 33-12, with TCS taking home the victory.
“The boys team are always must-watch games that are much more exciting, although I wasn’t able to watch all the games but I was able to see how they have evolved from prior tournaments,” Felipe Gaviria, Learning Center Teacher, said.
Colegio Cumbres brought two teams to the tournament. Due to a traffic accident, they were not able to play any games on March 6 therefore they combined both teams and played only in Group B. The following day, Cumbres played the semi-final against TCS, which ended with a game-winning free throw from Santiago Balladares, Grade 11, who made the score a 24-23 win in the latter stages of the game.
“It was a pretty tough game, in which both teams played a phenomenal, strategically-played game, where The Columbus School outscored Cumbres by one point. It was a game that could be taken home by either team,” Miguel Londoño, Cumbres player, said.
TCS strategic game plan kept scores closer than usual, as key defenders like Juan José Pérez, grade 10, and Pedro Gómez, grade 12, played a key defensive role. while providing passes to standout player Tomás Galeano, grade 11, who proved a hard presser for the opposition.
“We should’ve been more consistent with scoring. At some point, there were some individuals that were insecure with the ball and didn’t sustain it, and didn’t play with a cool head.” Pedro Gómez, Grade 12, said.
Leading up to Copa Columbus, the boys trained on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:00 am. They also played a variety of tournaments against alumni and teachers on Saturday mornings.
“The team is completely prepared to face a final, but it all comes down to your mentality, it doesn’t matter who is physically superior or more capable, the one with the better mentality will obtain the result they are looking for,” Cristian Marín, TCS Boys Coach, said.
