Next Sunday, April 23, the CORREMITIERRA race will fill the streets of the Paisa capital with sports and healthy living.
After thirteen years of successful results, CORREMITIERRA, the sporting event most loved by runners in Colombia, will hold its 29th edition in Medellín. The athletic race that promotes sport and healthy living in an environment of family and friends awaits the participation of more than 12,000 runners.
“I will participate for the first time in Corre Mi Tierra doing the 10k run. I am excited but at the same time nervous as I just started running about one month ago and I don’t know if I will be prepared for the race,” Senior Tomas Galeano said
As is traditional, the runners will make their way to the rhythm of different musical groups that will liven up the entire activity. Jorge and Cristy, creators and organizers of the event, confirmed that already more than 12,000 people have already registered through http://www.corremitierra.com.
“We are going to give our best with all the energy and motivation. CORREMITIERRA is a unique experience, and running the race with friends is an extra motivation,” Senior Cristobal Jaramillo said.
CORREMITIERRA has generated a significant economic impact for the country. In 2022 alone, it produced more than 1,500 direct jobs and more than 2,500 indirect jobs nationwide, generating more than 20 billion pesos in economic benefits throughout the territory.
During this year, the sports festival is expected to be held in three other cities in Colombia, achieving the participation of more than 15,000 people. Likewise, important brands from various economic sectors have joined the event thanks to their values of integration and joy to continue generating experiences in each runner.
Registration is still open and can be done at https://www.corremitierra.com/medellin, each participant can choose between the four distances available: 5k, 10k, 15k, and 21k. The registration cost is 200,000 pesos, and the package includes a shirt, a GPS chip, a medal for participating, and hydration that will be given throughout the route.
“Paying the registration fee is more than what it looks. It forces me to train hard for the race as I do not want to lose the money that it costs. It is also not so cheap, but it makes me feel good that I am spending my money on something productive,” Galeano said.
The 10k race starts at the Cristo Rey Park and passes through important city locations like the zoo, the Avenida Guayabal, the Avenida Industriales, and Ciudad del Rio, and ends at the 4 Sur bridge, which is famous for its skating spots.
The run starts at 8:20 in the morning, and the time limit is of 2 hours, but an average runner usually completes the route in approximately one hour. It sounds easy, but completing the race in one hour means that the runner needs to have an average pace of 6 minutes per km, which is a running pace.
“I have been training my treadmill and in different routes around my farm. My best pace has been 5min/pkm km for 30 minutes, which means that with a little bit more training I can finish the race in around 50 minutes,” Jaramillo said.
Other runners, like Santiago Balladares, from grade 12, are already experienced in races like such. He trains with his dad, who has ran the Paris marathon, and feels ready for Corre Mi Tierra.
“Running has become a big part of my life. My dad is a great runner, and by doing this race I can follow in his footsteps. I await Corre Mi Tierra with excitement and I hope to finish it in less than 50 min,” Balladares said.
