When Sara heard she had made it into Antioquia’s basketball team, she couldn’t believe it. “It was the best feeling I’ve had, because it’s like a dream that I had, and I achieved it,” she said. For her, the moment wasn’t just about making it onto the team; it was about years of effort finally paying off and closing a chapter of persistence. For Sara, basketball had stopped being just a sport a long time ago—it became a way of life, a dream that guided her every step.
Her family also played a key role in this journey. Sara recalls the joy of her parents when they heard the great news. “They were really proud of me…because that hasn’t been only me, that has been the support of my parents” (0:30–0:37), she explained.
Her parents’ support was not limited to words of encouragement; it was constant and practical. From driving her to practices to waiting at games and helping her manage her intense schedules, they became her backbone. This achievement, then, was not only Sara’s triumph but also the result of her family’s unconditional effort and dedication.
Getting to this level was far from easy. Sara had to train six or seven hours a day and often woke up early on weekends to play in games. “My life has been only playing basketball. I try to balance it, but it’s a lot of compromise,” (2:14–2:19) she admitted.
The balance between school, social life, and basketball was a constant challenge. While many of her classmates had afternoons free to relax or hang out, Sara had to organize her time down to the minute in order to meet her academic responsibilities while still showing up fully committed on the court. That discipline shaped not only her performance as an athlete but also her character as a student and as a person.
In the end, every practice, every sacrifice, and every compromise was worth it. Basketball taught Sara that dreams demand patience and resilience, and that success rarely comes without effort. Today, wearing Antioquia’s colors, she knows that all the struggles along the way were steps toward something greater. Sara’s story is proof that passion, persistence, and the support of loved ones can turn a simple childhood dream into a powerful reality.
