Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter

The makeup industry has expanded majorly through the years, and with it our generations have changed the way they looked at the world. Face cosmetics have advanced in insane and astonishing ways, one of the products that helped this was the prologue to the highlighter. I consider myself as a highlighter fanatic, and the Too Faced – Love Light Prismatic Highlighter was one of my latest purchasing. This highlighter comes in a heart-shaped container. It’s a golden highlighter that comes in a compacted powder, it was a very popular product when it was launched yet after user reviews the sales decreased dramatically. Here is why.

Let’s start with a basic point that we all look at when buying anything, the packaging quality. Packaging in makeup products, specially powder ones, is very important that they’re hard and resistant to any fall in order to keep the product safe. The package of the Love Light Prismatic Highlighter it’s definitely high quality. Its container is  metallic heart-shaped, and the product itself is shaped into a prismatic form, with the brand’s logo in the middle carved in. Something great about this packaging is how I have dropped the Too Faced Prismatic Highlighter, and it has survived all of those times which was a life savior. I mean no makeup lover likes when their makeup products are ruined after a little fall, especially a highlighter! This brought me to look at the potential competitor of this highlighter, known as Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed highlighter; it has a very similar packaging to the Too Faced Light Prismatic Highlighter when it comes to quality. Becca’s container is made up of a hard plastic and metal (light weight) with the logo of the brand around the metallic part, inside the product itself is presented flat. Before buying both products, I did look carefully at the packaging, and due for the excellent quality both brands had, I decided to buy them both. Talking about the tragic makeup falls, the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter was broken easily after a small meter length fall. This was so devastating.

As its name labels, the highlighter is made to highlight (apply illumination and glow) to your high points in your face, the ones the sun will normally highlight. When buying a highlighter, the pigment and glow it brings is crucial to see. Too Faced product was presented to the market with 4 different shades. Once the whole world started testing this “amazing” highlighter, beauty lovers started to realize they needed multiple layer in their face in order to properly highlight the spot. Also, the product can feel as a creamy eyeshadow and not so much as a silk highlighter; this was highly judge by the public, since no highlighter should be designed to feel that way. The basic things that are looked in a highlighter are: one, the glow/pigment it leaves; two, the consistency it leaves in the skin; and three, how much the glow lasts. Too faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter fails to meet any of these points. The first time I tired the Love Light Prismatic Highlighter was a complete fiasco, there was no glow, a weird texture on my face and after several layers I accomplished a slight light in my cheekbone. On the other hand, one highther that has made me fall in love was the Fenty Beauty By Rihanna-Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter. This product was launched with 5 different shades designed for all skin tones. This highlighter was highly expected by the artist’s fans, and many makeup gurus; and at the end it was a success. The cream powder formula it contains, leaves luminizing color in the skin with just one layer. When I tried this famous Highlight it was breathtaking, with only one layer of it in my face, the glow and the pigment it left was amazing and I couldn’t even feel the product in my face at all. Highlighters are new to the makeup industry, and once people use them they all fall in love; yet the Too Faced Prismatic Highlighter made me regret the purchase of it. With this experience and reading other reviews that said the same exact opinion towards the Too Faced highlighter I will deeply recommend Too Faced brand to stick to their eye products.

As said before, a very important point all highlighters must follow is that they’re long-lasting.  It’s not worth buying a product whom is going to last for a couple of hours, making you retouch throughout the day constantly. Love Light Prismatic Highlighter is said to contain an exclusive liquid-to-powder formula, in order to create unparalleled and long lasting color, and a silky smooth texture. In a 14 hour range, this product lasts only for around 5 hours; meaning it’s not long lasting, making it’s quality level decrease a lot. Now that we’re talking about long lasting products, Bobbi Brown Highlighter powder is amazing in this area. This one is made from long lasting cream-silk powder product, when applying this product at 9 am, you’ll still have glow and intense color in your cheekbones by noon. Knowing how much a product lasts is crucial to know before buying it, and I hope I would’ve known this before purchasing the Love Light Prismatic Highlighter.

Prices in makeup can variety a lot, but they all depend on their quality. The Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter, cost 30-40 dollars (depending on the size), and the Mary-Lou Manizer from the Balm Cosmetics, costs 24 dollars with one size available; the size being relatively the same to the big size of Too Faced Highlighter. As you can tell the pricing of both of these products are in a way similar, yet the quality is way too different for both. I would prefer spending 24 dollars, and saving 6-16 dollars on a really luminous and high quality highlighter rather than spending 30-40 dollars and not saving anything in a lower quality highlighter.

After trying this product, I will deeply recommend to those who are interested on buying it to not do this terrible mistake. Other highlighters, which are mentioned previously, will be a better purchased.
