Everyday Medellin’s community faces a major problem, this one being motorcycle accidents. Motorcycle accidents have led traffic problem ratios and this have also caused major mobility problems in the community, these often causing death to civilians. Even though motorcycles help a large part of the community, often it being the lower social class they cause too many problems in society and cause many fatal accidents which many times involve more than one civilian. People mostly use them to short up traffic lines and because they are a cheaper way of getting around in town, without many times realizing the risks that they face everyday. Many times people don’t take in account that there are cheaper and safer ways of moving around town like public transport buses, the metro or bicycles. Motorcycles being the major problem around Medellin’s roads.

Motorcycles accidents are causing a major problem in society, streets are becoming overcrowded which leads to accident ratios raising. According to the Secretaria de Movilidad “For all of 2016, the ratio was 47,391 accidents in which there were motorcycles in 60.5 percent of the cases. This means that there were about 130 accidents on a daily basis and approximately 78 were related to motorcyclists.” This shows that motorcycle accidents are leading traffic problems in the society and its a problem that indirectly affects everyone of us. This is because although we not necessarily the ones involved in the accident, we are the ones that have to wait on the traffic lines or the ones that constantly are arguing about maybe someone who cut in line or that parked were he was not supposed to.

This problem is affecting many community members mainly those ones involved in the accidents. “The problem is that many motorcycle drivers including me don’t follow transit rules or signals, this causes a major part of the accidents” Commented Pablo Gomez who actual motorcyclist. Because bikers are frequently disobeying transit rules many accidents are caused daily and even some times accidents are caused only between bikers. “I am aware that I have committed imprudence but often time I see the motorcyclists doing turns where you are not supposed to or passing where you are not allowed.” Said Mateo Gallego, an actual car driver and owner. As he affirms car drivers are not to blame for this problem, but neither are motorcycle drivers. The problem is generated because both sides do things they are not supposed to but instead of fixing it they blame others for what they did.

This motorcycle problems goes further beyond than thinking its about just the bikers or just the car drivers being the ones that cause the accidents. The problem is more about culture and education of people. Basically this is because people have to start thinking less about themselves, about arriving fast home, going through the stoplight before it turns red or saving five minutes if you go against traffic flow in an fairly empty street. But they had to start thinking more into a commonwealth were they help everyone and try to always think what is the best for the society. After we start making this change, not only this traffic problem but many other problems will solve themselves without much effort.
