Stop Using Cellphones!

One of the most annoying things a teacher can do in the eyes of their students is confiscate their phones. More often than not, trivial matters such as social media distract us from affairs that supply us with direction and general happiness, such as friends, family, and knowledge.  The dependency teenagers have on technology has distracted them from real life making them more dependent.

Technology constantly diverts us from our school responsibilities causing turmoil between students and teachers. Making matters worse, constant innovation in the electronics industry  makes it increasingly easier for students to get preoccupied by the latest social fad. This situation is reflected everyday in classrooms where students’ learning experience is ruined due to poor time management skills as they waste their day on their computers and phones.

Watching teachers take students phones away due to inappropriate use is a daily occurrence for me. Teachers encourage students to avoid improper use of their technology by providing them phone pockets and  implementing rules for appropriate use. Even though students receive all these reminders, many still don’t care and continue to use the phone constantly.

According to one analysis made by Amy Gahran of CNN shows 90% of Americans own a cellphone. Imagine if that is in America how many people in the world own a cellphone or have one on their houses? Finding a solution for technology use is a problem because there are those who can’t live without a cellphone and it is really difficult to come up with one solution that will help everyone. An attempt to control technology use in classrooms is to assign a specific area to isolate technology, in order to prevent distractions. Doing things like these will force people to stop being dependent of their technology.

Another study found that every time students see information on our phone, it influences us to not trust the people close to us, because we believe technology is a reliable source. In schools something that will help with this, is going back to the old fashion way, doing research in books and going to the library. This way students are not going to get used to trusting only the things that appear in their phone.

For a better future, technology is something we should learn how to use responsibly.  While there are many benefits, technology can also be easily abused. By using it a lot, students are missing a lot of real life experiences and are going to be more alone every day. So everyone should start being conscious when using technology and being careful with its use.

Finding a solution for the misuse of technology is a problem because its use is very unique; there are students who can’t live without a cellphone and one solution to help everyone is difficult to find.
