Red Dead Redemption II: A Game You Definitely Want to Get

Rockstar games are popularly known for taking their time with their video games. However, this is for a good reason, as every game they put out ends up getting amazing feedback and selling millions of copies worldwide. This year, they promised to release the most anticipated video game for console players in a good while: Red Dead Redemption 2. Now, if you aren’t familiar with the franchise and/ or the video game, let me explain a little bit more.

Rockstar games are widely known for pioneering and building from the ground up what we know as the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Thanks to the success in their games, they have achieved a net worth of over an estimated $3.5 billion. Now, all of this is thanks to how fun their games are and their ability to surpass themselves with every new game they put out as they take much longer than other video game companies thanks to the amount of quality and detail they put into their games. In fact, because of this, they were able to sell over 100 million copies on Grand Theft Auto V, making it one of the most popular games of all time.

Now that we know all of this, we can understand why this game has been so highly anticipated, with its release date being delayed and finally coming out in October 26th, 2018. Red Dead Redemption II actually acts as a prequel to the first game with a similar title, Red Dead Redemption. While on the first game we get to play as the ex outlaw, John Marston, who just wants to settle in with his family but his past starts catching up to him, the prequel is exactly the opposite. It’s 1899 in America and we are seeing the last straw of the wild west era, as society is moving on to a more advanced and civilised point in time: the last part of the second industrial revolution. Outlaws are basically extinct except for a few selected groups including the one our main character belongs to: Dutch Van der Linde’s gang. Now, from here on, the story is absolutely brilliant. We get to play as one of Dutch Van Der Linde’s main men and practically his non blood related child: Arthur Morgan.

The game kicks off right after Arthur and the rest pull off a gigantic heist in a town called Blackwater. However, the gang couldn’t actually take the money, as they were forced to bury and hide it in that same town. The gang is now on the run, as they become the most wanted around the blackwater area with bounties of over $5000 dollars at that time, which, thanks to inflation would be around $151,830.12 dollars in current 2018 standards. Now, at this point, I don’t want to spoil a lot of what happens next, however, the game basically focuses in the gang settling down near different towns and quickly having to move away thanks to their outrageous and reckless actions such as pulling off several heists. Some of these heists include: Train robberies, bank robberies, caravan robberies, rival gang sabotage operations, amongst others. Now, this is why I can say that storywise, this game takes it out of the park, as it really does put you in the setting of being an outlaw in the end of the wild west era.

Likewise, the gameplay for this game doesn’t fall in short, in fact, this game doesn’t fall short in any judging category whatsoever, but more on that later. Gameplay wise, this game is also absolutely amazing. From beginning to end we get to enjoy immense fun, as we get to ride and customise a horse as well as buying new ones in the stable. You also get spend in-game currency and even use real life cowboy weapons such as the lasso and the ol’ reliable revolver. Each weapon comes in different variations and styles as well as the ability to upgrade them in the shop. Using these weapons is extremely fun, the mechanics are smooth and it has a nice aim-assist feature that really saves the day at the time of critical fights against your enemies (which you have plenty of). Overall, the gameplay uses mechanics from past games such as GTA V, but it still has a fresh new aspect to it. The games adds new features that previous games didn’t have such as a health core system, which makes you eat constantly in order to not lose weight or stamina. At first glance, this might seem as an additional problem to worry about while playing the game, but I consider it as a more realistic aspect into the game as in previous rockstar games you seem to be immortal, since you can basically survive without food or water forever.

So, overall I definitely do recommend this game. It has a heart filling story, the gameplay is amazing, and the pricing is worth it for what the game provides you. Currently, the game goes for around $55-$60 dollars on Amazon, however, I consider that you definitely get your money’s worth. It has an absolutely amazing online play, with new updates coming out constantly adding new content, an amazing story with a definite replay value and ,graphics wise, it is one of the best games to come out for console. This game is absolutely aesthetically pleasing, and, what is even more amazing is that they managed to accomplish this level of detail on a game that is only available for two different 5 year old consoles is absolutely amazing. So, if you’re looking to get a new game to get for your ps4 or xbox one, definitely get Red Dead Redemption II, you will not regret it!
