Eugenia Echavarria on “Being a Senior Costs BIG Bucks”

In the article “Being a Senior Costs BIG Bucks,” by Nicolás Escobar, the author writes about the costs of being a senior, from the trips to Cartagena and San Andres down to their Halloween costume. This article brought attention to the high costs of attending every single event as a 12th grader in The Columbus School. I learned about the cost of the parties, clothing, trips and events, and it came as a shock to me. I admire how Escobar uses arguments and counterarguments throughout the article. He mentions the costs of the events and adds in seniors’ opinions: both positive and negative. While some people say the costs are too high, others say it’s worth it. I consider this topic very appealing since we’re all going to become seniors someday, and these traditions are not ending anytime soon. While I do think the information on the article was very complete, I think it would be interesting to conduct a survey and deduct the percentages of how many seniors have (or have not) attended every event and bought all of the clothing. Overall, not only was this article interesting but it’s also very relevant. I liked how Escobar included the prices of all of the events and clothing that are undoubtedly part of the senior experience. He lets the reader form their own opinion on whether it’s worth it or overpriced, and ends the article with a strong note: “We are getting what we are paying for.”.

Sincerely,
