Behind Art and how it Inspires us to Live in the Edge
Art is innovative, dangerous, expressive and beautiful, that’s why it’s one of the most important things in life. Despite the critics, art has and will represent humanity in many ways till the end of times. More importantly, art inspires us to live with passion and adventure.
The role Art has in Medellin is mostly important to the youth. It’s an example for youngsters due to the history it represents and how ideas can be expressed in a useful and healthy way.
Since the beginning of humanity everything has been based on art; hieroglyphs showing history and stories, rituals, dance routines, and different food choices around the world. Generally, people think of art as paintings and drawings. It doesn’t mean that because painting class in schools is called “ART” means art in general is only paintings; movie directors, soccer players, singers, rappers, actors and many more are portrayed as artists too.
Society doesn’t realize the massive part “art” plays in our lives. Singing in the shower, signing your name, a school craft project, even playing a sport or dancing are art. Music, movies, even painting itself have played as therapeutic exercises to help with depression, anxiety, etc. As Daniela Villegas, 11th grade student and amateur actress said, “Art is a way to express our inner self without feeling judged… life without art would be a blank endless monotony without flavour.” Even the memories we recollect while listening to a song, the tears we spill after a sad movie, and the satisfaction of creating a masterpiece demonstrates the influence art has towards all of us.
Art is underrated now a days in the society, it’s a requirement for schools but its still belittled when practiced. It’s not really “art” class, it’s only painting. And even though there’s also a band, we don’t really have a choice of practice; the same rhythm of learning with the same instruments. “Art” is not forced, it comes from inspiration, throwing people into it is not the best call. Plus, not everyone likes playing air instruments with a full dressed up band, some people are inspired by guitars, drums, others sing or dance. The school should have a wider variety of artistic events, they should cherish all of the fields by having film festivals, paintings exhibitions, theatre, singing competitions, talent shows, comedy club, etc.
Every shape of art should be more appreciated in the world. Less offices and more museums, less painting and more instruments, dance routines, culinary, etc. Art inspires us to live with passion and adventure, it completes us more than we realize, why take that away?
